The 58-year-old victim called 911 at around 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3 from the parking lot of a Wells Fargo at 391 Foxon Boulevard, according to New Haven Police (the business has moved, police said, but there remain two working automated teller machines).
The East Haven man reportedly left his 2013 GMC Terrain SUV with the keys inside and the engine idling when he went inside the building to use the ATM. When he emerged, a man was driving away in his car.
He jumped onto the driver's side of the SUV, police said, and was thrown to the ground as the vehicle peeled out of the parking lot. Police said that they did not know whether the injuries were sustained when the victim was dragged beside the car or if he was run over.
The vehicle, which bears a Connecticut license plate with the number AK20696, was last seen on Foxon Avenue driving toward Middletown Avenue.
Anyone who has seen the vehicle witnessed the incident or has any relevant information is asked to contact New Haven Police at 203-946-6316 to leave an anonymous tip.
